The Democratic National Convention begins Monday in Philadelphia against the backdrop of the Republican Party coalescing around its virulent hatred for Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. “Tim Kaine as my running mate”.

She announced Kaine, a Virginia senator, as her running mate Friday.

The Democratic National Committee’s rules panel has decided that Rep. Marcia Fudge of OH will preside over convention sessions beginning Monday.

“Senator Tim Kaine is everything that Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not”, Clinton said.

Clinton opposed the TPP during the primary against Sanders, citing concerns about job protections and national security.

“I don’t call him anything”. Active in the Senate on foreign relations and military affairs, he built a reputation for working across the aisle as Virginia’s governor and as mayor of Richmond. He was on the short list to be President Barack Obama’s running mate in 2008.

Kaine and Vilsack each had friends and allies lobbying the Clinton campaign on their behalf.

The Virginia senator is regarded as a careful, earnest politician who has navigated the rough-and-tumble of his state’s hard-fought electoral landscape with few ethical missteps.

At the splashy rally, Democrats sought to offer a contrast with Trump and Pence, whose first appearance together in a New York City hotel ballroom included a lengthy speech by the GOP businessman and much more limited remarks from Pence, the in governor.

Sanders supporters are still in Philadelphia to support him.

“Robby Mook says on CNN’s ‘State of the Union” that experts are telling the campaign “Russian state actors” broke into the DNC’s emails, and that other experts say these Russians are now selectively releasing the emails.

Bernie Sanders says he wishes Hillary Clinton had picked someone like Massachusetts Sen.

Clinton’s campaign closely guarded the selection process, keeping the names of finalists under wraps to try to maximize the impact of the announcement.

Clinton’s team knows they can’t easily flip her trust ratings, which, along with Trump’s, are among the lowest of any presidential candidate in memory. The Democratic candidate made no mention of her impending pick during a somber meeting with community leaders and family members affected by the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando and a later campaign rally in Tampa.

“The simple message is ‘I have been and always will be your champion and Donald Trump’s only in it for himself, ‘” said Elleithee. Pence will campaign with his wife, Karen.

Trump dismissed the suggestion in a tweet: “The joke in town is that Russian Federation leaked the disastrous DNC emails, which should never have been written (stupid), because Putin likes me”.

The bus tour from Philadelphia will make stops in Pennsylvania before barnstorming OH on Saturday night and Sunday.

Ahead of her speech, she secured endorsement of retired Gen. John Allen, former deputy commander of U. S. Central Command and a former commander of the International Security Assistance Force, overseeing North Atlantic Treaty Organisation troops in Afghanistan.

“Got to have a fallback in my line of work”, Kaine retorted. Then, he quickly used his Spanish, a language he picked up after going on a missionary trip to Honduras during his college years. During his political career, he’s demonstrated an ability to woo voters across party lines, winning his 2006 gubernatorial race with support in both Democratic strongholds and traditionally Republican strongholds. He called marrying his wife, Anne Holton, “the best decision of my life”. The couple has three children.

Clinton, raised in the Sputnik era, once aspired to be an astronaut and, when she was short on cash in college, scavenged the Wellesley campus for discarded items. Elizabeth Warren, two Latino cabinet secretaries and New Jersey Sen.

Sanders endorsed Clinton two weeks ago after pressing for the party platform to include a $15-an-hour minimum wage, debt-free college and an expansion of access to health care.

Democrats argue that Kaine can help her woo moderate and even some Republican voters turned off by Trump’s provocative rhetoric. Sanders’ supporters say they are concerned that Kaine is not progressive enough. Kaine consistently has sponsored legislation that would have opened Virginia’s coast to drilling. “Do you want a trash-talking president or a bridge-building president?”
