Democratic race down to just two: Clinton, Sanders face off

This exactly what the people have been waiting for a head-to-head Democratic debate with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

At a CNN town hall in Derry, New Hampshire, ahead of next Tuesday’s first-in-the-nation primary, Sanders slammed Clinton, arguing that she’s out of step with the party’s base on issues ranging from campaign finance to climate change, trade and the Iraq War. However, Sanders was the one who drove hoards of new caucus-goers to the polls in Iowa, coming out with 59% of first-time caucus-goers compared to just 37% for Clinton.

Where? The debate will take place at the University of New Hampshire, a frequent site of campaign events this cycle, in Durham, New Hampshire.

It wasn’t even supposed to happen, but on Thursday night voters will be treated to a presidential debate after the Democratic National Committee, along with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders came to terms on the additional showdown.

Likely Democratic voters are far more likely than Republicans in the state to say they’ve made up their minds about the race, with 64% saying their choice is locked in, while just 41% who say so on the GOP side. “And I think we are gaining more and more support in those communities”, he said.

“I do not know any progressive who has a super PAC and takes $15 million from Wall Street”, Sanders said, during a candidate forum sponsored by CNN”.

“Under the definition that was flying around on Twitter and statements by the campaign, Barack Obama would not be a progressive, Joe Biden would not be a progressive, Jeanne Shaheen would not be a progressive”, she said.

Moderate. Democratic socialist. Independent.

There are expected to be three more debates between Clinton and Sanders during the primary election season.

“Senator Sanders likes to point out that he is the most progressive candidate, points that out a lot frankly in this campaign”.

I think I may not have done the job I should in explaining my record. “We are going to win some states, we are going to lose some states”, Sanders told reporters on Tuesday.

“I respect the fact that I have work to do”, said Clinton.

The New Hampshire debate was originally scheduled without the DNC’s involvement.

Clinton had hoped for a strong finish against Sanders in Iowa to vanquish his insurgent candidacy.

Thursday’s debate will be the first faceoff for Clinton and Sanders since former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley dropped out of the race after a poor showing in Iowa on Monday.

Clinton’s campaign also criticized Sanders’ camp for what it said were misleading ads that suggest the senator received the endorsement of two newspapers that have not backed his bid for the White House.
