Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, at an addiction round-table here this month, told reporters they “should be ashamed” for asking him about Trump. “I’m never going to forget the time he walked into a room with Chuck Schumer and came out supporting amnesty”. Along humorous lines, Dave Shiflett, who once wrote a biography of Trump, observed, “In a shock to Main Street, Wall Street, Sesame Street and probably lots of people who believe in a benevolent deity, Mr. Trump has leveraged fear of Islamist mass murder, concerns over a slack economy, and widespread disdain for the forces of cultural bullying into a forceful lunge for the presidency”.

The CNN/ORC poll also found that Trump’s supporters are largely non-college-educated voters. Two recent polls have placed him in fourth place there, with 11 percent support – just behind Sen.

“You are the most powerful voters in the world”, Christie told a recent town hall in the town of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

“Trump is an anomaly because of the overwhelming frustration voters have of Washington”, said Michael Dennehy, a New Hampshire Republican strategist who worked previously for Rick Perry’s presidential bid. Twenty-six percent were leaning toward a candidate, and 56 percent were still trying to decide.

He won the backing of a key evangelical coalition after a secret December 7 meeting in which top national activists agreed to roll out a stream of endorsements, many timed for maximum impact between now and March 1, Super Tuesday, when a dozen states will hold primaries or caucuses.

There were a couple of interesting assessments of the Donald Trump phenomenon in the Wall Street Journal last Tuesday.

“My definition of a fascist is a man who wants to set aside constitutional and individual rights including the right to worship freely in our nation and wants to scapegoat a whole group of people and issue ID cards to people based on their faith”, O’Malley responded.

“He’s been through quite a bit of bad things, between 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy”, said Greene, who owns a 3-D scanning business. “I’m into leading. The yelling only goes so far”. Political advertising on broadcast and cable is substantially more expensive when it is bought at the last minute, even though candidates are charged lower rates than super PACs.
