Democrats in disarray on eve of convention to nominate Clinton

“As Party Chair, this week I will open and close the Convention and I will address our delegates about the stakes involved in this election not only for Democrats, but for all Americans”, Wasserman Schultz said in a lengthy statement.

The DNC released a statement on Sunday saying that she’ll step down at the end of the convention, which is held this week.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not speak at this week’s convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after a Wikileaks email dump appears to show that the group conspired against Sen.

Wasserman Schultz has been a lightning rod throughout the presidential campaign for criticism from the party’s more liberal wing, with Sanders repeatedly accusing the national party of favoring Clinton despite officially being neutral.

I have been privileged to serve as the DNC Chair for five and a half years helping to re-elect President Obama and Vice President Biden, strengthening our State Party Partnership in all 50 states, leading a vigorous primary election this past year while preparing for the general election and representing millions of Democrats across the country. But to do that, she must overcome lingering bitterness among supporters of defeated rival Bernie Sanders and a political mess and last-minute leadership shake-up of the party’s own making.

The Vermont senator repeated calls today for the resignation of Ms Wasserman Schultz, whose leadership was already under fire and whose impartiality was called into question by the leaks.

Both President Obama and Hillary Clinton accepted Wasserman Schultz’s resignation in statements issued within moments of each other.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., announced Sunday she will quit at the end of the convention after leaked DNC emails triggered an uproar the day before the first session.

On Twitter, Republican nominee Donald Trump mocked Wasserman Schultz.

“We’ve made a big effort to make sure this convention runs smoothly, and if this helps I support her decision”, said McKenna, who is from Sebring.

After the DNC released a slightly trimmed list of superdelegates – those are the party officials who can back any candidate – it now takes 2,382 delegates to formally clinch the nomination. “I don’t think she is qualified to be the chair of the DNC – not only for these bad e-mails, which revealed the prejudice of the DNC, but also because we need a party that reaches out to working people and young people and I don’t think her leadership style is doing that”.

However, former party spokeswoman Maria Cardona predicted on CNN that Wasserman Schultz’s statement is a beginning point for negotiations that could further minimize the Florida congresswoman’s role this week. Sanders’ supporters believe Kaine is not liberal enough.

“I think she should resign, period, and I think we need a new chair that’s going to lead us in a new direction”.

“I am grateful to Debbie for getting the Democratic Party to this year’s historic convention in Philadelphia, and I know that this week’s events will be a success thanks to her hard work and leadership”, Clinton said. Do you think the scandal will hurt Clinton in November?
