Democrats outnumber Republicans in early voting

Today, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, the first 2018 midterm primary elections in the country will be held in the state of Texas.

Bush said the county, district and state Republican Party each passed resolutions against non-partisan elections during the GOP’s last convention cycle. As of 9:30 p.m., Valdez had 43 percent of the vote and White had 29 percent. They’ve drawn so many hopefuls from each party, that most primary races won’t have anyone winning a majority of Tuesday’s votes, meaning runoff elections May 22 will determine who will be on November’s general election ballot. According to numbers from the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, 110,334 county residents voted early in the 2018 primary, beating the county’s previous high turnout in 2014 by more than 40,000 votes. He said he doesn’t feel it’s fair for third-party candidates to also pay that $216, but then be forced to get petitions signed with five percent of registered voters in the district in order to be placed on the ballot with the Republican and Democratic candidates.

Already, Democrats have been performing far better than expected in state legislative elections since Trump became president. Sarah Davis of West University Place, Wayne Faircloth of Galveston and Lyle Larson of San Antonio.

One Democrat, Josh Wilkinson, is seeking the seat.

Some Republicans voting in the Texas Republican primary say they’re concerned about proposals calling for restrictions on firearms sales.

On the Democratic Ballot, Larry Lira is running for this position. “If progressives see us trying to sell them out to gain Republican votes, they’re going to stay home and we’re going to waste this national energy that’s been building”. “Whether or not we want to raise property taxes”.

There are eight open-seat races happening, too – six held by Republicans and two by Democrats who are retiring.

Sessions didn’t appear anxious about his Democratic rivals Tuesday after cruising to victory in his primary. So are Land Commissioner George P. Bush, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick, all of whom are Republicans. Pat Fallon, a Republican business owner from Frisco, is challenging state Sen. “There are questions about how well his office has handled Hurricane Harvey relief”. The Intercept described the DCCC’s move against Moser as going “nuclear”, and Kelly stuck with the nuclear-war terminology when asked about Layman’s suggestion that the primary interventions will continue if need be. “He was anti-Trump in the primary and his entire family was against Trump”, says Pauken. “Most of them tend to favor the Republicans”. And I’ll be watching the ideological balance to see whether Democrats harm their chances in tough, Republican-leaning districts by nominating the most liberal candidates. In order to win the party’s nomination, a candidate has to get 50% of the vote. Beto O’Rourke was running away with the Democratic nomination to challenge Ted Cruz for his Senate seat, grabbing almost 90 percent of the vote so far.

Other possible exceptions are state Sen.

The Republican and Democratic parties will hold elections to nominate candidates for their respective parties.

In southeastern Collin County, Republican Jodie Laubenberg is also stepping down from political office.

Since this is Texas, and West U runs moderate but leans toward the conservative side of things, the primary is the race Davis has to win to secure her seat, since the midterms will be just a formality. Even Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has been indicted on felony securities fraud charges, remains favored for re-election. Don Huffines of Dallas and Konni Burton of Colleyville.

Uncertainty runs deep about how exactly the primary will shake out. Democrat Ray Ash will face the victor of that contest.
