Democrats schedule 6 primary debates starting in October

Between February and March, a debate with Univision and the Washington Post will occur in Miami, Florida, and the final debate in Wisconsin with PBS. In the 2008 Democratic primary, 26 different debates were held, six of which when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the only two candidates participating.

The fourth debate will be held in Charleston South Carolina on January 17, and it will be hosted by NBC News and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute.

The DNC had already announced that it would sponsor six debates, but the details of when and where are new.

“All we know is we will show up for as many debates as they want to do”, spokesman Craig Crawford said. “I look forward to working with the DNC to see if we can significantly expand the proposed debate schedule”, he said.

“With our first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses just months away, the debate will be a great opportunity for Iowans to hear directly from our Democratic presidential candidates about pressing issues facing our country”, McGuire said in a statement.

The Daily Beast reported that O’Malley and Sanders both lobbied the DNC for more debates, while Clinton lobbied for fewer.

Clinton still remains the heavy favorite and leads nationally by more than 30 points.

Ohio Governor John Kasich announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination on July 21, saying no other candidate else has his experience dealing with deficits, unemployment and national security.

The O’Malley campaign took aim at the DNC after the schedule was announced.

With a polling average of about 2 percent – and far behind Clinton and Vermont Sen.

On Wednesday in Iowa, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley blasted the “small cabal” of Democratic leaders in Washington in charge of the process. The campaign sent a statement to reporters in which O’Malley said the schedule “seems geared toward limiting debate and facilitating a coronation”. Bernie Sanders. It’s unclear if Vice President Joe Biden will enter the race.

Sanders said he was also unhappy with the plan, and would press for more debates. Jim Webb of Virginia and Lincoln Chafee, a former governor and senator from Rhode Island, had no problem with the schedule.

In addition, those candidates will have the chance to clearly contrast the values of the Democratic Party, which is focused on strengthening the middle class, with those of the Republicans, who pursue utopian and old-fashioned policies, she said.

Some of Clinton’s four opponents, as well as a handful of liberal groups, have called for the DNC to add more debates and drop a new policy that bars candidates from DNC debates if they participate in other non-sanctioned debates.
