Democrats Vote to Bind Most Superdelegates in Move Towards Party Unification

A suggestion by one DNC official that the party find a way to raise questions about Sanders’s religious faith (or alleged lack thereof). “They stack the deck, and they do everything they can to make sure who wins the primary is their candidate of choice”, said Arnie Arnesen, a liberal progressive Democrat and talk radio host in New Hampshire.

“It is time for the DNC and its Rules Committee to ensure that the voices of voters – not party insiders – will always be the deciding factor in our nominating process”, said Aaron Regunberg, a Rhode Island state representative and DNC Rules Committee member.

After the DNC released a slightly trimmed list of superdelegates – those are the party officials who can back any candidate – it now takes 2,382 delegates to formally clinch the nomination.

NY delegate and Sanders supporter Arthur Cheliotes spoke of the need for the party to come together, as they head towards the general election.

His son piled on Sunday saying if his father’s campaign were questioning someone’s religion, “They’d be calling for people to get the electric chair”, Donald Trump Jr. said on CNN’s “State of the Union”.

A California delegate says there are serious discussions underway to challenge Hillary Clinton’s pick of Tim Kaine as her running mate.

One involved superdelegates to the Democratic National Convention. Democrats had even sneered at the raucous nature of the Republican National Convention, such as when Ted Cruz was booed for refusing to endorse Trump.

Patrick Doyle says he hasn’t ruled out supporting a third party candidate like the Green Party’s Dr. Jill Stein or the Libertarian Party’s Gary Johnson, if he’s not satisfied with what Clinton has to say at the convention.

“Leaked e-mails of DNC show plans to destroy Bernie Sanders”, he said.

The superdelegate system was created as an attempt to balance the voices of voters and political insiders after the landslide defeats of Democratic nominees George McGovern in 1972 and President Jimmy Carter in 1980.

DNC and Sanders campaign officials weren’t immediately available for comment. The Clinton campaign also expressed support for the commission. “I could see a majority of them throwing their support behind Hillary as long as the Democratic party listens to the points they are bringing up about income equality, campaign finance reform, among others, and I personally would like to see them incorporate that into the platform”.

According to a press release from the convention’s committee, the first night of the convention kicks off with First Lady Michelle Obama and Sen.

While Hillary Clinton beat Bernie Sanders decisively in the Democratic primary, her dominance of the superdelegates made a Sanders victory virtually impossible.
