The Ball State women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 10 Michigan Friday afternoon at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Courts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia will be competing for the first time since a 4-3 loss against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament Finals on April 24th.
Last season, third-seeded Cal lost to 14th-seeded rivals Stanford in upset fashion in the round of 16. Women’s tennis, ranked No. 8 in the ITA national rankings, returns to the postseason tournament for the first time since the 2000-01 season, and only the second time in program history.

Tomorrow’s match with the ninth-ranked Maroons is slated for 1 p.m.at UW-Whitewater.

The battle at the draw is really going to be between NU’s sophomore midfielder Shelby Fredericks, who ranks No. 6 in the nation in draw controls, and Louisville senior Kaylin Morissette, who sits at the No. 2 spot.

A UM victory Saturday would send the Hurricanes to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 11 consecutive season, all of them under coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. Plus, Georgina Sellyn, who did not play in last year’s postseason due to injury, played in two previous NCAA Tournaments.
