Pernille Blume of Denmark waves to the crowd after receiving her gold medal for the women’s 50m freestyle at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, August 14, 2016.
The 20-year-old, who leaves Rio with two golds and two silvers, won the 100m freestyle in a dead-heat with Canada’s Penny Oleksiak on Thursday.
Blume triumphed in 24.07 seconds with Manuel of the U.S. just 2 hundredths behind.
But she won her first individual title – Denmark’s first gold in Rio – in grand style, getting her hands on the wall first after a blanket finish. Belarus swimmer Aliaksandra Herasimenia took bronze in 24.11 seconds, reports Xinhua.
While some Olympic historians have disputed the number of golds the US has won, the United States Olympic Committee said that the women’s victory would count as the country’s 1000th.

Dana Vollmer, who swam the third butterfly leg for the United States, was the only one in the race line-up to have also been in the 2012 winning quartet.
