Denver Broncos: QB Trevor Siemian Appears Ready to Lead Offense into 2016

After losing his starting job to rookie quarterback Trevor Siemian, Mark Sanchez is reportedly being forced by the Denver Broncos to take a significant pay cut. He won the job over veteran Mark Sanchez and rookie Paxton Lynch.

Siemian was not sacked in his three preseason appearances, which, behind a variety of combinations in the offensive line, showed his ability to get the ball out on time and an understanding of where the pressure was coming from.

On Monday, Denver officially named Trevor Siemian as the starting quarterback.

Kubiak said he won’t pare the playbook for Siemian despite his inexperience – his only National Football League snap was a kneel-down a year ago.

The former Northwestern Wildcat threw for 117 yards on 10-of-17 passing, with both a touchdown and an interception. When the Broncos broke for vacation after OTAs in June, Kubiak declared Siemian and Sanchez were “neck and neck”.

“I think (Siemian) earned the right to be our guy”. Because Siemian will not play in the preseason finale Thursday in Arizona, the team will likely need more than one quarterback available.

The Rams got it going late in the first, with a nice threat to Lance Kendricks for 23 yards.

For the second game, Siemian got his chance to start.

If the Broncos are able to trade Sanchez they will save about 3.5 million dollars and will also avoid giving the Philadelphia Eagles their seventh round pick.

Since last winter Gary Kubiak has been contemplating a big decision: Who will replace #18 at quarterback as the Broncos defend their Super Bowl championship. The widespread assumption was that the Broncos would acquire a proven quarterback in their quest to repeat as champions.

Siemian, 2 4, was the seventh and last quarterback to be taken, and was decided in the seventh round of the 2015 draft. “I’ll just try to be the best teammate I can be”. In that sense, I think I’m a little more comfortable now as in I know my assignments.

“The thing about replacing Peyton – nobody is going to replace Peyton”, Siemian said last week. “We still have a great deal of interest in Brock”.
