Depleted Man City face Chelsea in FA Cup showdown

Chelsea will give John Terry until Friday to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Manchester City.

The centre-back was replaced during the first half of the Blues’ Premier League rout of Newcastle United on Sunday, and was unable to take part in the Champions League bout against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday evening.

I played with Iva in the Premier League and in the 2013 Europa League final and was successful, so I don’t see it being a problem if John’s not available. But ideally we have everyone available and have the strongest squad available.

Despite the defeat, the Blues produced an admirable performance and head into the return leg next month knowing that a 1-0 win would secure their progression to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition. “Hopefully the goal that puts us through in the tie”.

“We must not go into a situation where he will drop back again for a longer period of injury. I think we’re still alive”. And it seems this season when I’ve played the defence has been reshuffled, but you adapt.

“We defended when we had to and played when we had to”. The pair have only started eight games together and only once since the beginning of December – the comfortable FA Cup victory over Sky Bet League One side Scunthorpe. “It’s fantastic that they’re getting their opportunity”. Obviously we conceded two, but when you look at how much possession they had in the final third, the amount of corners, the amount of blocks we made, it shows how hard we worked.

“Maybe that changed the dynamics of the match a little bit, but we know that we can cause them problems and what we have to do in the second leg”.

“So we’re disappointed with the goal at the end but nevertheless there were positives to take”.

“We won this first round, even if that Chelsea goal is a potential danger, but we know we are good enough to qualify”.
