A boy and a girl on their way to Westwood High School in Richland County began to fight on the bus, at which point pepper spray was sacked out of a small canister, officials said.

Authorities are checking surveillance video to determine what happened.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington was the only reporter at the scene, where she learned that an adult and some students were involved in an argument that included pepper spray. During the fight, pepper spray was sacked out of a small canister, but officers have not said yet who they think may used it.

“Obviously, it affected more than one student on that bus”, Wilson said.

“Especially inside an enclosed vehicle such as a school bus, it was able to disperse and affect the students that were there”, Wilson said. Investigators say during a fight that followed, the sister of the female student grabbed the spray and used it on another student.

It is also not clear why the parent was on campus or if the students’ parents were notified.
