“He (Iheanacho) is our striker and I trust him”. I think he has intention, because even though the arm is behind his body, he knows the cross is not going in his face, it’s going in his back’. He is mainly a no.9 and, if we want him to play in a different position, we need to work on him and improve him but his big personality is there. I think in the first half we deserved to be losing and in the second half we don’t deserve to be losing.

Mourinho repaired his error at half-time, introducing Ander Herrera and terrace darling Marcus Rashford for Mkhitaryan and Lingard.

‘We are very disappointed with the result, but I am very disappointed with two decisions of Mark, ‘ Mourinho said.

“But it is not just about them”.

“Jose Mourinho will be dented tonight, damaged slightly; he’s a man of great pride, but they’ll respond, it’s still early days, and it doesn’t tell us about the league title and where it’s going”.

“We had a few players below that level and we were made to pay”.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a stunning 2016 since scoring twice on his debut against FC Midtjylland, netting five goals in just four Premier League starts last season – including the victor in the Manchester derby in March – before a debut strike for England earned him a place at Euro 2016. “He doesn’t lose many games at home, and it’s a big, big moment”.

Marcus Rashford has the potential to be a leading player in world football if he is given time to develop, according to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Guardiola praised Bravo for the way he recovered from the error and the defenders in front of him who stood firm against United pressure late in the second half.

“He coped with many situations but you never know the way they are going to react, especially when you don’t know them so well”.

'We should have had two penalties', says José Mourinho
