Henry was up against Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, the two other nominees up for title of 80th Heisman Trophy Winner.

Afghanistan: ‘Dozens of Taliban killed’ in battle for Sangin
A small contingent of British troops was sent to Helmand last weekend to provide support to embattled Afghan forces in the province.

The Southeastern Conference’s hostile takeover of college football is complete. I understand that Alabama has won a lot of championships, I know that winning at Alabama over the last few years has to some become routine.

Protest in Thailand following murder conviction
Win Zaw Htun and Zaw Lin , both 22, have denied killing David Miller, 24, and raping and then murdering Hannah Witheridge , 23. The two Burmese workers were arrested a few weeks later, whereas the case made headlines in the United Kingdom and Thailand .

Heisman Trophy voters are spread evenly by regions. “Now I’ll have something to look at it with my name on it. I’m so glad I could bring Alabama its second Heisman Trophy”. This dominance not coincidentally mirrors the SEC’s takeover of the BCS in its final eight seasons.

Russia says air force has not hit civilian targets in Syria
Russian Federation has launched about 5,200 sorties in Syria over the past three months. “I want to say this with dignity”.

The young man who just won an award that will be mentioned in the first paragraph of his obituary is a small-town guy from Yulee, located pretty much where Florida, Georgia and the Atlantic Ocean meet. He also got to spend Friday and Saturday taking in the sights and sounds of his first trip to the Big Apple, like Central Park and Times Square. Before the Heisman came a dose of humility. Seriously, how many times did Henry put Alabama on his back and make things happen?

Derrick Henry bulldozed defenses while carrying Alabama’s offense this season, and then walked away with a Heisman Trophy.

In 36 career games, Henry has 547 rushing attempts for 3,358 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Watson’s legitimate shot to win was overwhelmed by the record-setting dominance of Henry and McCaffrey.

For some it’s hard to believe that McCaffrey would finish second in voting in a year where he breaks Barry Sanders’ all-purpose yards record, but I think the right player won.

In seven games against top-25 teams, Henry ran for 1,261 yards and 13 touchdowns on 198 carries for a 180.1 yards per game average. With that being said, it’s also one of the greatest nights for the family that has stuck with the player through thick and thin to this point.

While the SEC has dominated this award in recent years, no one has come so agonizingly close but ended up empty quite like Stanford. ESPN, which has a near monopoly on the sport, practically is a shareholder of the SEC, with an 80 percent ownership stake in the SEC Network (the other 20 percent is owned by the Hearst Corporation, this paper’s parent company). CBS began its exclusive coverage of the SEC in 2001 and is seasoned at championing the league’s cause. Henry’s victory has its roots in his power on the field and the power of the Alabama brand off of it, but it might not have happened without an injury. And it took Derrick Henry to the 2015 Heisman.

Given Alabama’s long history of success, it was always surprising that the Crimson Tide failed to win a Heisman Trophy until Ingram won in that tight 2009 race. But the sign of the times is instructive in how the epicenter of the sport clearly has shifted.
