Despite 21 golds, Michael Phelps eager to add more

Tears welled in his eyes as he listened to the national anthem – until one of his buddies from Baltimore cracked him up that shouting out “O” like they do at Camden Yards before Orioles’ games.

Michael Phelps is the most celebrated Olympic athlete of all time.

According to NBC Olympics, the two own 93 Olympic and world championship medals between them and they have combined for the last five world record progressions and all of the reported top 10 all-time performances.

Michael Phelps shared an adorable moment with his baby son after clinching the 20th gold medal of his illustrious Olympic career.

“The 2010 Miss California USA, who welcomed son Boomer Robert with Phelps in May, has been dating the world’s most decorated Olympian on and off since 2007”. But outside of the relays, their rivalry has been one for the ages – arguably one of the best in sports history.

Phelps and Lochte have each medaled in the 200 IM in the last three Olympics.

The 200 IM is one of two races that Phelps can win for the fourth straight time, along with the still-to-come 100 butterfly. Bronte is the reigning world champion, but Cate is the world-record holder.

Phelps: Sydney 2000, became the youngest male to make a U.S. Olympic swim team in 68 years.

Four years ago, Phelps mistimed his finish in the wind-milling stroke he does better than anyone, gliding to the wall a little too long after his final whirl of the arms.

Phelps is the heavy favorite, as he should be.

Michael Phelps won two gold medals on Tuesday, avenging his 200 metres butterfly defeat from the London Olympics and then anchoring the United States 4×200 freestyle team to victory on a night of high drama and emotion in the pool. Nathan Adrian, who failed to defend his Olympic title in 100-meter freestyle, recorded the second fastest time at 21.61 while another American sprinter Anthony Ervin finished with a time of 21.63.

For the past few days Michael Phelps has been trending worldwide, and not just for his men’s freestyle relay, which, of course, he won a gold in.

For Lochte, this final race could mean more.

Ledecky took the most challenging step toward a feat that’s only been done one other time, holding off Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom to win the 200 freestyle and give the American star her second gold of the games.
