Destiny’s The Taken King DLC Will Offer Weapon Balancing

Now it’s time to cover which buffs and nerfs that PlayStation and Xbox players should be cheering.

We strive for Destiny to be a place where a single weapon or strategy does not dictate how, or with whom, you spend your time. For those that want more details about the weapon changes, check out the official memo from Jon Weisnewsi at the Bungie site. Check out the best of the buffs and nerfs below and sound off in the comments on what you think of the changes.

Although some weapons will be beefed up, other favorites, including elites, will be nerfed. This is what is known about the Destiny 2.0 Release Date and what changes will be made with the weapons.

The goal is to have Auto Rifles be effective in close to medium range, so damage falloff will occur early and stability is being tweaked to make landing repeated precision shots more difficult at long ranges.

Reduce base damage of Thorn’s Mark of the Devourer DoT (Damage over Time) to roughly 1/3 of what it was in PVP and PVE.

When hardcore Destiny players grew tired of grinding the same PvE missions, they gravitated to Crucible. With the arrival of the 2.0 update, players can expect that the Gjallarhorn will be significantly weaker than what it once was. A few downgrades will be longer reload times or reduced damage among others.

Thorn has had an interesting journey. Gjallarhorn? Thorn? The Last Word? Soon, though, Bungie will reduce the damage from these wolfpack rounds.

As for shotguns, the shot accuracy is reduced 30 percent, precision damage reduced by 10 percent, and reduced damage against non-player enemies by 10 percent. This pushes the gun into its intended role of a short-range, fast firing weapon. Granted, players will have to wait until September to see those changes, but they have a lot to look forward to.

Of course, an RPG would not be an RPG without overpowered weapons, and Destiny’s selection comes in the form of Exotic Weapons. With the potential to have nearly maximum stability (and thus almost no recoil), and infinite range, Hard Light will at least behave like it’s actually shooting Light at people. When the game first launched, the exotic auto rifle Suros Regime was probably the most powerful, overused item in the game.

Scout Rifles will enjoy higher base damage and magazine size, as well as a 5% damage boost against AI enemies, but these increases come at the cost of a slight loss of accuracy.

In the post it’s mentioned that Bungie considered introducing these changes one at a time, but instead opted to introduce the majority of them simultaneously ahead of the launch of The Taken King.
