“By fighting these fires, we unfortunately enter what’s called the fire paradox, and that is the harder you try to suppress them, the worse they get when they do happen”, Finney said.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper in Spokane reported at least two other wildfires have erupted in eastern Washington, one of which has scorched about 22,000 acres (8,900 hectares) in Franklin County, about 90 miles (145 km) southwest of Spokane. It remained closed Sunday.
As of Sunday, G14 Interlake Road west of Lake Nacimiento Dam and at the intersection of G14 Tierra Redonda at Lynch Canyon Road. This combined with unusually high summer temperatures over the last few years have made what might otherwise have been small, manageable fires into massive conflagrations that have provided significant challenges to firefighters and other emergency services.
The number of structures threatened by the fire grew over the weekend to 332.
So far, the fire has destroyed 48 structures and damaged an additional seven. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said 11 structures were destroyed, a figure that includes homes, garages and outbuildings. The entire community has been evacuated because of the threat from the fire, but the fire has not reached Monterey County, he said.
Road access the the communities is closed at the intersection of Chimney Rock Road and Running Deer Road.
The Blue Cut fire, which has been raging since Tuesday, seems to finally be under control.
So far, the wildfire had destroyed nearly fifty structures, including houses and other buildings. Damage assessments are ongoing.
“Minimal fire behavior was observed yesterday which allowed the completion of the containment lines”, said a press release. “Almost all of this area is sparsely populated.”The once-fast moving and erratic blaze that burned nearly 58 square miles was 85 percent contained”. As of Monday, it was only 20 percent contained.
Update 9 a.m. The declaration will make it easier for funds to be allocated to those affected by the fire. It’s one of four fires burning in Yellowstone, and warm, windy weather was expected again Monday. The devastating Clayton fire, in Lake County, which started August 13, has charred 3,929 acres and destroyed 300 structures. A release from the Incident Information System reporting the lifting of evacuation orders posted “WELCOME HOME!” in bold print to the evacuees. “We’re just prepared”, Doiel said. “Really they kind of do a disservice to their neighbors”. The fire has been burning for a month and has consumed some 87,000 acres north of Big Sur.
Milloy said crews are operating on very little sleep as Cal Fire resources are stretched throughout the state battling nine separate large fires.

About half those acres have burned in California, where fires must be managed tightly as firefighters work to protect homes and infrastructure, Broyles said. Firefighters, engines, and heavy equipment continue to operate in the area.
