The National Weather Service has declared a wind advisory for Central Alabama from noon on February 2 to 3:00 a.m. on February 3.

The warning was in effect for Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties until 5:45 p.m. At 5:09 p.m., a tornado was reported near Fort Stewart, moving northeast at 35 miles per hour.
“Severe weather at night when folks are asleep can catch some people off-guard”, commented WLOX Meteorologist Wesley Williams.
Nobody was reported killed in the incidents, but damage to churches, residential areas and a federal prison hit the headlines.
The college says it’s unclear whether Tuesday’s damage was caused by straight-line winds or a tornado that was spawned from the weather system that tore through nearby Collinsville.
Footage showed belongings strewn over a wide area after a tornado struck in Newton and Lauderdale counties in eastern MS during the afternoon.
The storm system has already been deadly, with one person killed by the first round of storms in California.
Federal authorities also informed that the tornado damaged the administration building of the Federal Correctional Institution, a women’s prison in Aliceville.
A mobile home was picked up and dropped, leaving it cracked in half near one street, recounts the article.
At least two minor injuries were reported, according to AL.com. “We prepared well, we probably prepared as well as any state for severe weather”.
Ahead of the storms, Tuscaloosa County is preparing shelters for the public, according to WVTM13.
The Justice Department said the facility in Pickens County, Alabama, is a low-security female institution housing about 1,850 inmates.

Alabama’s Emergency Management Agency warned residents to be prepared for possible tornadoes, widespread showers and damaging winds into Wednesday.
