Authorities said they located her remains on Saturday in Surry County, North Carolina, just over the Virginia border.
Police indicated that David Eisenhauer had a previous relationship with Nicole Lovell, and reports from her family hint that he may have used the girl’s insecurities to his advantage in abducting her. Natalie Keepers, a 19-year-old student at Virginia Tech, was also arrested as an accessory after the fact.
A Blacksburg police spokesman said officials did not yet know when the two suspects would make their first court appearances. She shared pictures of herself wearing orange Virginia Tech T-shirts at sporting events with the message, “Let’s go Hokies!!!!”
David Eisenhauer, 18, has been charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder in the death of 13-year-old Nicole Madison Lovell, who endured a liver transplant and bullying at school and online. Natalie Keepers faces charges including improper disposal of a body.
It was on social media where Nicole may have met Eisenhauer recently, Weeks said police told her. “That’s all I know”, she said.
Montgomery County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt, left, and Blacksburg Police Chief Anthony Wilson listen to questions during a news conference Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, in Blacksburg Va. Virginia Tech student, David Eisenhauer, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Nicole Madison Lovell, whose remains were found in North Carolina. Neither entered a plea, and both are due back in court March 28. She told Judge Robert Viar Jr. she understands the charges.
The arrests of the engineering majors shocked people who knew them in high school, where they lived nearby each other in Maryland.
Eisenhauer previously lived in Washington state before moving to Columbia, Maryland, where he attended high school and was named Athlete of the Year, according to The Baltimore Sun.
She said she had retained a lawyer.
“It’s just very, very surprising”, said her principal, Marcia Leonard.
Her family found a dresser pushed against her bedroom door and believed she climbed out of a window, according to the Roanoke Times.
Calls from 11 News to the attorneys representing Eisenhauer and Keepers have yet to be returned.
The investigation continued as a state police search and recovery team searched a pond Sunday on the Virginia Tech Campus.
The same day, she posted another that said, “I’m taken”. “She was telling me that girls were saying she was fat and talking about her scars from her transplant”.
The mother of a slain Virginia teenager says the girl endured bullying at school and on social media before her death.
Blacksburg, Virginia, police said Eisenhauer, a member of the cross country team at Virginia Tech, kidnapped and killed the girl, Nicole Lovell, and Keepers helped him dispose of the body.
Lovell was last seen Wednesday night at her home at Lantern Ridge Apartments in Blacksburg, according to police.
Davy Draper, a close family friend, called Nicole an energetic and outspoken girl who got along with everyone.
“She was an awesome little girl”.
DEQ interim director Keith Creagh told the Detroit Free Press he hopes “to be able to say something about the general health of the system come mid-April”.
