Detroit’s Levy out against Packers; Lions sign Gooden

The short-handed Detroit Lions announced Saturday afternoon they’ve signed linebacker Zaviar Gooden from the practice squad. Detroit linebacker DeAndre Levy will the Lions’ game Sunday at Green Bay because of a quadriceps injury. At this point, the Lions have just three healthy linebackers on the roster: Tahir Whitehead, Kyle Van Noy and Thurston Armbrister. The Lions talented pass rusher finish third in the National Football League in sacks last season only behind Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt and Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack.

Dobson’s departure comes after a brief stint with the Lions. As a result, the Patriots released him during final roster cuts this year. His release leaves the Lions with four wide receivers: Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, Anquan Boldin and Andre Roberts, who has served as the team’s primary return man.
