Detroit shuts out Flyers 3-0 as playoff race winds down

The Wings travel to Boston on Thursday, and a Detroit win would clinch third place in the Atlantic Division. If the Wings lose in regulation on Wednesday, then the Bruins know they would make the playoffs if they beat Detroit and then win their final game on Saturday against Ottawa.

Here’s how to watch Flyers-Red Wings online.

Only the Washington Capitals had more, 103, to that point, while the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, and Florida Panthers were all nipping at the Bruins’ heels with 85 points apiece.

Something to wonder about tonight, is this the last home game for Pavel Datsyuk?

An even more glaring mistake led to the second goal.

With just 16 goals this season, Datsyuk admitted he wasn’t pleased with his form and didn’t rule out returning to Russian Federation at some point.

Mar 15, 2016; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Detroit Red Wings left wing Henrik Zetterberg (40) carries the puck against Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald (47) during the third period at Wells Fargo Center. Wednesday was his second shutout of the season. Larkin was denied with a kick save during Detroit’s second power play and Helm saw a backhand disappear into Mason’s pads as the Wings continued their solid game. Brett Connolly returned to the ice and has a slight chance to play tonight. The Bruins could also make the playoffs if they finish tied with either team, as long as they overtake them in the ROW column. The pass pinged off by the skate of a Red Wings defender before it was tapped in by Greening. It’s not a hard formula, and while the goals might be considered greasy or yeoman’s work, it certainly gets the job done.

Consistent team defense is something the Red Wings haven’t really been able to achieve all season, and it stems from the same issue they have on the power play. Luke Glendening put on a checking clinic against the boards at one point, going after three separate players to wring seconds off the clock. The Flyers have four games left, Detroit has three, and Boston has two. The Red Wings have enough offensive skill to cash in on a goal or two at even strength.

“It was a great effort all around”, Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard said. Mrazek posted a ridiculous 7-1-1 record in January with a. 952 save percentage and 1.32 goals-against average.

What would the playoff matchups look like?

The puck hit the side of the net and ricocheted right to Helm.

The Flyers, Boston and Detroit all have 91 points. Detroit has won back to back games and are 6-3-1 in their last 10 contests but they have been pretty inconsistent this season and don’t always seem to show up in the big games. The Wings haven’t missed the playoffs since Bernie Federko and Mike O’Connell were on the team, since Jacques Demers was butchering the English language in their locker room, since Ronald Reagan was handing the reigns to George Bush – the older one.
