Tyler Saladino tripled with one out in the ninth off Neftali Feliz to break up the Tigers’ no-hit bid and scored on Adam Eaton’s RBI single to take Quintana off the hook for what would have been another hard loss. Blaine Hardy earned the win for Detroit, which bounced back from being swept by the White Sox in a doubleheader on Monday.

The Tigers and White Sox are tied 1-1.

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta last night became the first pitcher in the majors this season to reach 20 victories while tossing a 3-hit shutout to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 at Wrigley Field. “More than anything I just want to be out there playing, having fun”. Norris retired all 15 batters he faced in his 5 innings of work with 4 strikeouts on 63 pitches, 41 of which were strikes.

There have been only 11 combined no-hitters since 1901, but Tuesday’s managers played against each other in one of them.

“Bruce Rondon”, the manager said without hesitating. “I wasn’t thinking as much about the no-hitter as I was thinking about who was coming in and how we were going to attack the hitters”. Norris, who will likely be limited to approximately 65 pitches on Tuesday, is 0-2 with a gaudy 9.00 ERA in three home starts this season. “I feel like I’ve got good stuff, and it’s going to work”.

Eaton tied the game in the ninth, but he also ended the combined ideal game in the seventh.

Meanwhile, the Tigers werent able to put anything together against Jose Quintana until the bottom of the seventh. After J.D. Martinez singled with one out, Nick Castellanos followed with a grounder to the left side… except it found a hole.

Drew VerHagen pitched a ideal eighth, although a replay review was needed to overturn a throwing error by Castellanos.

Earlier in the game, Davis said he was wondering how the celebration would to unfold, should the club accomplish the never-been-done-before pitching feat.
