Devante Adams’ unbelievable catch from Packers win over Jaguars

The Green Bay Packers escaped the tropical hell hole that is Jacksonville, Fla., with a 27-23 nail-biter versus the resilient Jaguars in which the vast majority of Packers alternated brilliant plays with poor ones in energy-sapping 92-degree humidity.

The first scoring play of the game came early on when Green Bay managed to record their first touchdown of the season. After a toss left to Eddie Lacy lost 2 yards, Aaron Rodgers called a timeout with 3:28 left facing a third-and-4 from the Green Bay 24-yard line. Finally, Rodgers saw Nelson and hit him toward the back of the end zone. The Jaguars made an early effort to get Lee involved – he was targeted four times before Allen Hurns had one target.

Rodgers completed 20 of 34 passes for 199 yards, with TD passes to Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams. “I like to try to get to the back of the end zone and find a void and he’s able to find me”.

The rest of the first quarter would not be as easy for the Packers offense.

Again, nothing on the stat sheet, but Jones made the play. “Where I give credit to this team was the poise they had”. But Perry and Jones played an equally big role in preventing the Jaguars from wearing out the Packers’ defense on the ground. Nelson had six catches for 32 yards in his first action in more than a year. But considering this was Nelson’s first game since sustaining a torn ACL in August 2015, this was a good next step in his comeback. He returned only for individual drills for one week, then on scout team for the preseason finale, before returning to his regular role for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville, on the other hand, is significantly healthier going into the game. “That’s the caliber of receivers we have here and that’s the standard we hold ourselves to”. So it’s not a given he’ll ever be the same guy this season even as his conditioning and timing improve. Ivory was hospitalized Sunday with a “general medical issue”. There’s a difference between you expect to win and you know you’re going to win.

Rodgers was right about one thing. You have to get the first one in the column. The Jaguars got one sack on Sunday and it was a loss of less than a yard. “We don’t have rules for marquee players and we don’t have rules for marquee teams”, Goodell said.

” If second-year linebacker Joe Thomas keeps playing this way as the dime linebacker, he might challenge Jake Ryan for playing time in the nickel as well”.

If not for the circumstances, this game wouldn’t rank among Nelson’s career highlights. “Throw my way if you want to”.

Thomas also set up a Matthews’ sack by steamrolling running back Denard Robinson on a blitz. His weapons looked good as well. And so he was Sunday. It would prove to be crucial, with the Packers clinging on for victory in the second half.

While it was not the return of the offense that some may have expected, the Packers offense did just enough to squeak out a road win in the blistering heat.
