Devendra Jhajharia Breaks World Record, Clinches India’s 2nd Gold of Rio Paralympics
Jhajharia ended the men’s F46 event with a throw of 63.97 metres, setting a new world record.

He has become the first Indian to clinch two gold medals at the Paralympics.
This is the fourth medal for India at Rio Paralympics as Thangavelu Mariyappan and Varun Bhati had earlier won Gold and Bronze respectively in the Men’s High Jump event whereas Deepa Malik won silver in Shot put event.
The Rajasthan born athlete had lost his left hand when he was electrocuted while climbing a tree as an eight-year-old. The para-athlete was also honoured with Padma Shri in 2012, thus becoming the first paralympian to received the award.
Entire India is congratulating Devendra Jhajharia on his achievement and in the row, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted to congratulate Devendra Jhajharia for his extraordinary achievement.
Chunliang Guo of China grabbed the silver with an effort of 59.93 while Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Priyantha Herath secured the bronze. With few days left for the competition to end, India can hope for some more medals in the Rio Paralympics.
