If Jesus was walking around Sacramento right now and saw the homeless and hunger, what do you think his reaction would be?

For me, Pope Francis’ message is not a “healing” one. He joins a local church because it’s the expression of what Christ has made him – a member of the body of Christ.

While the pope’s admonitions are worthy of note, consider a question: Can a man who represents an institution that has committed centuries of evil, destruction, condoned and opened the door to the holocaust of the TransAtlantic slave trade be the vicar of Christ?

“Then it was the same thing of, just because you went to a weird church before doesn’t mean that this is weird”. Or, maybe, the teachings of the Holy See resonate with people, or, could it be that many people hope that he will loosen the interpretations of basic Church teachings? It’s certainly part of his style not to harp on the negative points, and not to be confrontational, but we should be listening with the ears of our hearts, to discern how he is preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere he goes.

“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”. And if you haven’t been reading the news, Pope Francis’s speeches and encyclicals are chock full of morally charged anti-capitalism.

After all, wasn’t it the Catholic Church that famously protected so many Jews during the Holocaust? The New Testament refers to the name of Jesus Christ as authenticating certain actions of the apostles. While our Father in heaven may choose to bless us materially for example, He is not excessively anxious about the quality of the auto we drive or the clothes we wear. The true child of God will emulate that same conduct.

Justin Bieber’s interest in Christianity has been well-documented in recent years. Constantine provided religious toleration with the Edict of Milan in A.D.

It is nothing short of a call for genuine Christian unity in Christ! It is “essential to Christian formation and the development of mature faith”.

Besides the false beliefs, the atrocities and violations of the Catholic Church are far too numerous to list here, but the church has a bloody history.

His title is Pope, but he is not God.

However well life is going overall, we all have moments when we feel totally overwhelmed – unable to get perspective or see beyond a particular problem.

“All prophets prophesized about a superior One coming after their time”. Rocks, we’ve been told, severely inhibit WiFi reception.

Finally, in combining his concern for the plight of individual persons and the future of the planet, Pope Francis reminds us that church and state are two sides of one coin, whose value depends upon the two institutions working together for the common good.

Idleman, who attracts 24,000 people to his church on a weekly basis, told The Church Boys podcast that his new book, titled, “The End of Me: Where Real Life in the Upside-down Ways of Jesus Begins,” helps Christians discern what it means to navigate that relationship.

The word does say that one should first remove the log in his/her eye, before moving the splint in your brothers eye.

Francis, the son of Italian immigrants who settled in Argentina, demanded Congress, “reject a mindset of hostility (toward immigrants)…We must not be taken aback by their numbers, but rather view them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their situation”. We have a High Priest that covers us, who allows us to come out and do what we do in the church. He has never backed away from that assertion. We’ve listened to what the pope has to say and it’s been an overwhelming experience, I think, for most Catholics probably here in this country and especially for those who’ve had the opportunity to be where the pope has been in Washington and New York and Philadelphia. The Gospel calls for an undivided heart given over to the Lord and a life lived according to the pattern of Jesus’ own life. Elijah Muhammad and his tiny Nation of Islam. No one has proved a physical resurrection from beyond the grave and few seem willing to die to prove it. We can learn from each other’s spiritual journey. Elijah Muhammad and his servant, Min. Farrakhan. It penetrates to the heart, transforming lives.

Day and Merton are not as well-known as Lincoln, who fought the war that ended slavery in the United States, or King, who battled the racial bigotry that persisted after the civil war.
