Dez Bryant gets slugged in the face during big Cowboys-Rams fight

The NFL has put an emphasis on keeping fights out of practices considering it’s not a good look for the league, especially when dozens of players from two teams almost take their haymakers into the crowd.

Tony Romo had to wait until after Dallas’ first joint practice with St. Louis to see if his surgically repaired back would feel good enough to make it through a second consecutive day with the Rams.

Tuesday it was Cowboys vs. Rams, with trash-talking between Dez Bryant and Rams’ cornerback Trumaine Johnson lighting the fuse that eventually exploded into a full-field brawl.

While the extra work against another opponent it’s noteworthy, it’s also important to consider that these things can also end up being an invitation for nobodies to get their name in lights one more time during a period of career-desperation, at least in some cases.

The Rams and Cowboys do not meet in the regular season this year.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and Rams coach Jeff Fisher were there for last night’s melee between the teams during a joint practice, and both expressed the kind of official disapproval you’d expect after practice had to be cut short.

When St. Louis Rams tight end Jared Cook walked off the bus he didn’t believe what he was seeing.

“We’re going to have to continue to emphasize that stuff is not what we want”.

Even Rams owner Stan Kroenke was spotted at the Cowboys’ training complex, which encompasses most of a hotel just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean.

“I think it’s a huge message to the Rams’ popularity in Southern California”, Butts said.

“I know of no reason why we can’t (hold camp in Oxnard)”, Jones said.

Bryant, who wouldn’t talk to reporters when leaving the field Monday, was loud and demonstrative as usual even though he didn’t compete in team drills. “We got through a day and three quarters and we had some really good work and then unfortunately things got out of hand and we shut it down”, Fisher said. All you’re thinking about is having your teammates back.

Street was named All Big East second team in 2012 and third team in 2013. Kroenke got to meet Foles, his new quarterback, for the first time before watching the joint workout with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones from the observation tower between the practice fields.
