Diana Gabaldon expresses Herself about the ‘Outlander’ finale

The Battle of Culloden is nigh, and though Claire and Jamie have tried a number of desperate moves over the course of the second season of Outlander to prevent the fateful fight, nothing has worked.

Season 1 embraced Outlander’s bodice ripper roots and anchored it in a gritty period drama while rising above both genres and it was the show’s greatest strength. With time, truth is uncovered, and it evolves through faith and trust. Oh, you know, meandering the ruins of Lallybroch, having visions of Jamie and visiting the local museum – where she finds her wedding gift from Hugh Monro, aka a dragonfly in amber. At any rate, it’s a kinder, gentler, and much tastier type of reality series where the lack of backstabbing, badmouthing, and manipulation, weirdly, makes you intensely invested in who wins.

Claire does. “I didn’t intend to fall in love”. But speaking of Brianna…

Sophie Skelton is the weakest actor on the show, but she’s up against some exquisite talent.

So, what’s 1960s Claire up to while Brianna’s getting her sleuth on?

They sure set up a fantastic premise for the next season. It’s a good things the series has been renewed for another two seasons, or the fans would be rioting in the streets given the ending cliffhanger. Adding to this, we will also see Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield. He’s intelligent, witty, charming and bearded. If they’re just the right amount of fun, you should enjoy it. And if you haven’t read the books, I have just once sentence for you: Jamie as a pirate.

So Roger is actually a MacKenzie descendent!

You’d have to have seen the show and read the book to understand exactly what she means here, but the Facebook post includes the relevant “Dragonfly” passages.

I welcomed the return of Geillis Duncan.

Deadly Trust (Lifetime, 8 p.m., Saturday): In contrast, this Lifetime movie is about a con woman trying to drive a rich old lady insane so her kids can inherit her money, and has a title that could sub in for literally any other Lifetime movie ever made. She has a few interesting encounters with Brianna and Roger, which eventually leads to Claire finding her. Only by the time they try to stop Gellis, she had wrongly sacrificed her husband to time travel through the stones.

“We did have a conversation with Diana and she explained her rules of time travel to us”. A visit with the world’s most helpful clerk confirms that the estate’s title was passed from Jamie to his nephew, thanks to a document bearing Claire’s smudged signature. Oh, Bonnie Prince Charles. Claire later shows her hostility toward the prince and his cause at a museum. She does not want to go, but he guilts her into it, by talking about their baby. So just imagine her reaction when she learns of her actual origin story.

“Sam and Caitriona were taking a short break between scenes when I saw them off to the side, holding hands and Sam was even whispering in her ear”, the unnamed source reportedly revealed. Dougal overhears. “You filthy whoring witch”. So her being patient and working on that with him – that’s the kind of love and intimacy that I think makes people respond to Outlander. “There’s something that Bri feels that her mother has been keeping secret from her for 20 years, so there’s always a little bit of a coldness or a distance in their relationship”.

“He survived, he survived”, she says, turning to look at the stones. “You never know, but you have to act anyway, don’t you?” Murtaugh and Fergus are informed of Dougal’s death and everyone leaps into action. He was the war chieftan hellbent on saving Scotland, and ultimately he couldn’t. Even if he would have lived, the battle would have ultimately failed. I don’t know how much we can share with you because there would be massive spoilers.

TG: We like to think of the story in emotional arcs rather than plot arcs. But I don’t know, with this whole Brexit thing …

If you found your eyes brimming with tears during Claire and Jamie’s waltz, take comfort in the fact that you were not alone. He will send Claire to safety and then will come back to die. It’s something I’ve considered again and again. Give. Caitriona. An. Emmy.

“My favorite character, the one I’m most looking forward to but who I’m also most stressed about, is young Ian”, said Davis.
