Diana Ross congratulates daughter with full page ad

Tracee Ellis Ross received the nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy for her role on ABC’s Black-ish. In response, what is presumably the dream of all non A-lister parents, the 72-year-old icon took out a full page ad in The Hollywood Reporter congratulating her second eldest within her clan of five. “So proud of you”, the message reads, before closing with “Love, Mom and the Ross family”.

Her nomination marks the first time a black woman has been nominated in the category since Phylicia Rashad earned a nod in 1986 for her portrayal of Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

As previously reported by Us, Tracee, 43, is up for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Rainbow Johnson on ABC sitcom Black-ish.

Tracee, who plays Anthony Anderson’s feisty wife in the hit US show, spotted the ad and took to Twitter to thank her mother for being so sweet. “Then I opened my front door and I don’t know where I thought I was trying to go, so I closed the door and I called my mom. They make space for me to do that as a character”.
