“I think it is cruel [on Stokes]”.

“Asked how is Stokes coping with the disappointment, Morgan replied:” It’s quite simple from my point of view.

“I thought we were probably a few runs short, but it’s a final and, if you get the runs on the board, anything can happen”, he said. “It’s not his fault, we’re all in this together, we enjoy our wins – and the pain will be shared tonight”, the skipper said.

“The honour is fitting and we salute the players”, the WICB said.

Brathwaite finished on 34 not out from just 10 deliveries, but veteran right-hander Marlon Samuels stroked an unbeaten 85 from 66 balls and was the architect of the victory, earning the Player-of-the-Match award. If we get a good start then I could definitely step on it. I told before that we have 15 match winners in the team, but nobody gave us a chance. We continued to back ourselves, back our strength and our strength is hitting boundaries. Sammy retired from Test cricket but I haven’t.

“He [Stokes] doesn’t learn”.

“I keep telling him when he plays against me, do not speak to me because I’m going to perform”, said Samuels.

“I didn’t even face a ball and you have so much to say today”. (Grenada) Prime Minister (Dr. Keith) Mitchell, I know what he’s trying to do and I really want to thank him.

England looked set for lifting another title before Samuels and Brathwaite steered West Indies towards sensational victory by displayed their batting prowess as they accumulated 54 runs in the last four overs.

A distraught Stokes, whose death bowling was one of the key factors in England’s passage to the final, sank to his haunches as the West Indies players celebrated around him.

Brathwaite appeared to have more sympathy for Stokes, who was distraught after the match’s dramatic climax and had to be consoled by members of the England team.
