‘Diego Costa needed this goal for his confidence’ – Jose Mourinho praises

Chelsea host Norwich at Stamford Bridge on Saturday priced as bet365’s 2/5 favourites to get their flagging start to the new league season back on track with a victory.

Costa again missed a number of chances against Norwich before securing Chelsea’s first win in four league games with the 64th-minute victor in a 1-0 success at Stamford Bridge on Saturday – only his third goal in 11 Premier League appearances this season.

Kurt Zouma also hit the bar after Chelsea had gone 1-0 up.

Terry now reckons there is an opportunity for Chelsea to build upon the win, firstly at Maccabi Tel Aviv on Tuesday, before games with Tottenham, Bournemouth, Porto, Leicester, Sunderland, Watford and Manchester United before the end of 2015. With the Blues ready to respond to their disappointing defeat to Stoke City two weeks ago, Mourinho will be expecting his players to fight for their pride and show the world why they won the league last season.

“If you ask me about the title, I would say impossible mission”.

The Blues managed to leapfrog opponents Norwich City and find themselves in 15th position on the league table with 14 points, hardly the ideal perch for the reigning EPL Champions.

Norwich City had a first half penalty shout when Robbie Brady went down under a few pressure from behind by Willian but referee Craig Pawson must have felt the attacker fell too easily and had no interest in an award.

“But we could deal with the final 5 minutes, we could deal with that strain as a result of the strain was there”.

Then he called on the Tom “Mission Impossible” Cruise spirit to lift them into fourth place.

“It’s a bit of a relief”, said Mourinho after a win that ended a three-match losing streak in the league. “We could cope with the pressure in the last five minutes because it was there, I felt it and the players felt it. We coped well with that and we got a result that we obviously needed very much”.

Costa conceded earlier this season to reporting for pre-season overweight, and the striker, who was prolific last term in Chelsea’s title triumph, had scored just three times prior to the worldwide break. As for Alex Neil and Norwich, they can be pleased with a hard-working, solid display, despite the defeat.

Mourinho said: “You don’t score goals, you get heavier”.

Kenedy caused the Norwich defence all kinds of problems with his raids forwards and Diego Costa should really have scored from one of his crosses.
