Diet Pepsi gets rid of aspartame

Beginning today, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi and Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi will be sweetened with a blend of sucralose instead of aspartame and will be available at retailers throughout the U.S. An integrated marketing effort kicks off today to encourage consumers to taste the diet cola through sampling, advertising, coupons, retail promotions and social media activations.

And considering that specialists have bound this tumble by sales departments in the aspartame itself and never to the thought of food regimen soda pop generally, PepsiCo. decided to check out its idea that the aspartame-free weight-reduction plan beverage helps make its Diet Pepsi attain its former recognition.

Other diet soft drinks such as Diet Coke, Diet Dr Pepper and Fanta Zero still use aspartame, which the Food and Drug Administration has declared safe, despite some studies claiming it caused tumours in rats.

“It’s the No. 1 thing that our customers have been calling about”, said Seth Kaufman, a senior vice president at PepsiCo, regarding the switch in sweeteners. The decision follows a decline of 5.2 percent in Diet Pepsi’s sales volume in 2014, according to Markets Morning.

The company hopes that now that they have removed this chemical, their sales will go up. Many call for more organic ingredients, but that’s likely to never be possible. Two years ago, Coca-Cola even tested ads in select newspapers defending the safety of the sweetener. In response to customer feedback, the company said earlier this year that it would replace the aspartame in the drink with another artificial sweetener that has less baggage.

Pepsi announced in April that it would remove aspartame from their product sold in the United States, while other countries will still have the old formula in stock. Cans and bottles of the new Diet Pepsi have been making their way through the distribution in recent weeks.

The company says its new structure will give more independence to many of its wide-ranging and ambitious projects.
