Differences aside, Pence looks a safe bet for Trump
Only briefly in that time did he acknowledge the goal of the event, the crisp haircut awaiting his introduction stage right: “Mike Pence was my first choice”, he insisted.

“Even though the Trump rallies are big productions… for Mike Pence, this is his style: a little more understated, a little more traditional, a little more what you’d expect from a conservative”, said Dana Carroll of suburban Indianapolis. But Trump postponed the event because of the attack in Nice, France, that claimed dozens of lives. Trump then preempted his own press conference by announcing his choice Friday on Twitter. Christie was said to be a better fit for Trump, but his previous prosecution of Charles Kushner, father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has become a close Trump confidant, tore at Trump’s family loyalties.
“I call her “Crooked Hillary” – she’s crooked Hillary”, Trump told CBS.
Just as Trump was settling on Pence, Republicans gathering in Cleveland essentially quelled the effort to stop him at the convention, all but assuring he’ll be the GOP nominee.
He also commented on the “Never Trump” movement, which sought to derail Trump’s nomination saying, “They got crushed”.
Pointing at Pence as if he couldn’t speak for himself, Trump added, “I didn’t ask him to do it. I don’t think he should do it. Because it’s different for him”. “So many people have said party unity. I think it’s one of the reasons I won in landslides”.
“I accept your invitation to run and serve as vice president of the United States of America”, Pence said. But in doing so, Pence praised Trump.
The yammerers on cable television instantly pronounced Pence “presidential” for the facility with which he read a speech.
As for Gingrich? The former speaker has been positioning he and Trump as maverick candidates and said that the choice between he and Pence was “a choice between having two pirates on the ticket and a pirate and a relatively stable, more normal person”. Hillary Clinton is a liar.

His return caps a tumultuous few days that began when Pence accepted Trump’s offer on Wednesday, covertly boarded a private plane Thursday for NY, only to have Trump say during a TV interview later that night that he had not made a “final, final” decision.
