Nominations list in television this year is dominated by streamers.

Viola Davis is nominated in the best performance by an actress in a television series? drama category for her work in “How to Get Away with Murder“. Even another Netflix show, “House of Cards”, was snubbed.

“In a sharp reversal of past patterns, Netflix, a relative upstart, captured eight television nominations, beating HBO, which had seven”, the Times wrote about Thursday’s announcements.

The three services drew 14 nominations in total, five more than the commercial broadcast networks combined. Ironically, NBC which will air the awards show live on January 10, 2016 has zero nomination this year, AceShowbiz reports.

The 2015 Golden Globe nominations have been announced, and the list of nominees provides irrefutable proof of the growing status of digital-only content within the world of television and film.

“The Big Short”, which takes a quirky look at the housing bubble collapse that led to the 2008 US recession, led the comedy nominees with four nods; best comedy, screenplay and actor for Christian Bale and Steve Carell.

The Golden Globes TV categories this year had some… unexpected names.

For best actor in a drama, the nominees are Cranston, Redmayne, Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Revenant”, Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs” and Will Smith for “Concussion“, a story about a pathologist who diagnosed degenerative brain disease in American football players. The film did not receive a best picture nod, however, which may come as a disappointment to the SVOD, which has strategically chosen to distribute the film in theaters to make it eligible for awards such as the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

In the best director category Ridley Scott (The Martian), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant), Tom McCarthy’s “Spotlight“, Todd Haynes’s “Carol” and George Miller for “Mad Max: Fury Road” have been nominated.

Also nominated in the best television drama series are “Mr Robot”, “Narcos” and “Outlander“.

Room“, based on a mother and her young child held in captivity, also picked up a nomination for Best Motion Picture in a Drama and writer Emma Donoghue got the nod for Best Screenplay in a Drama.

Ricky Gervais returns as host for the Globes on January 10.

The TV network is also absent in the running for best comedy series. They are: Aziz Ansari, “Master of None”; Gael Garcia Bernal, “Mozart in the Jungle”; Rob Lowe, “The Grinder”; Patrick Stewart, “Blunt Talk”; Jeffrey Tambor, “Transparent”.

Finally “Penny Dreadful” – a show that manages to stay under the radar despite getting great reviews- got itself a nomination for “Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series- Drama” for actress Eva Green.
