“If you visit Belmar please treat the hardworking men and women in our service industry with the same respect you would expect at your job”, he wrote on Facebook.
Tipped servers in New Jersey typically make under $5.00 an hour, and supplement the bulk of their income with tips. Or just suck it up and leave a normal tip and don’t return to that restaurant.
Jessica was working on August. 17 and serving a party of eight.
But now, waiters and waitresses can find solace in the entire internet if they post their disappointing checks online. “I hope they burn on the beach”.
Jones admitted that the family waited an hour to eat. All she can do in this situation is exactly what she did: keep the drinks coming, give updates on the status of the orders, and do her best to be cheerful as she tries to keep eight people happy.
After the $112.03 bill was paid for by credit card and the party had left, Jones noticed that her customers left her no tip.
“That is awful”, one user writes, “it’s not your fault the food took an hour…my guess is, they weren’t going to be big tippers even if they didnt wait an hour”.
The Point writer and former waitress Laura Cataldo argued, “Plain and simple, if you stiff a waiter or waitress for something like this, you’re a douche”.
Jess, a student at Rutgers University in the city of New Brunswick, New Jersey, admitted that the table did have to wait one hour for their order, as was also written on the bill.
As Jones said herself, “Waiters are mere messengers most of the time, and it’s wrong to shoot them, however bad the news”. If the customers were upset, they should take that up with the managers and not punish the server for events out of her control.
And so, apparently, is no tip at all.
Jones shared a photo of the receipt and a post about the situation on Facebook, and the story is now raising interesting questions about the whole concept of tipping in the first place.
