Dio throws the horns again as Wacken hologram
According to Eyellusion, the Ronnie James Dio production “represents the world’s first rock hologram performance and the first time a hologram has been accompanied by a live band”.

The likeness of Dio, who died from stomach cancer in 2010, was created by Eyellusion, a Los Angeles-based developer of holograms for the live music market which officially launched last weekend after “operating in stealth mode” for the past two years.
At Eyellusion, we are live music fans first. When Ronnie James Dio appeared via hologram with his old Dio bandmates, all of the hard work the team and band have put in over the past few months was rewarded as soon as the fans gave their instant stamp of approval.
Dio Disciples plan to continue to use the hologram during a 2017 tour. Ronnie James Dio himself sang with the group to the shock and delight of fans watching live.
Eyelusion spent 12 months developing the Dio hologram for the German festival all with full approval from Ronnie’s widow Wendy Dio.
That doesn’t mean that you missed the chance to see former frontman of Ronnie Dio and the Prophets (who also performed in, you know, Elf, Dio, Heaven & Hell, Rainbow, and Black Sabbath) perform live, though… well, in a manner of speaking.
He said: “We can’t wait to bring this experience to even more of his fans and perhaps even a newer generation when we bring this incredible live experience on the road next year”.
Eyellusion CEO Jeff Pezzuti says his company is “creating an entirely new way for fans to experience their favourite music”. It said about 75,000 witnessed the hologram performance Saturday.

Yahoo Music said hologram performances have continued to improve since the technology was used on a large audience at Coachella in 2012 with late rapper Tupac Shakur and followed by Whitney Houston and the rapper The Notorious B.I.G.
