Dion Lewis signs contract extension with Patriots

The New England Patriots have reportedly signed running back Dion Lewis to a two-year contract extension through 2017, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

The extension is worth potentially $5 million.

The report adds the new deal has a 0,000 signing bonus, base salaries of $800,000 in 2016 and $1.2 million in 2017.

There’s a good chance Lewis is already on a fantasy roster and given how well the Patriots are playing right now, the sneaky veteran rusher should be in lineups week to week. Prior to this season Lewis missed the previous two years, 2013 with a fractured fibula, and last year being cut before the start of the 2014 season and ultimately missing the whole season.

If Lewis continues to produce for the team and fills the role that Shane Vereen once provided for the Pats before he signed with the New York Giants this offseason, Lewis’ next contract extension should be even more substantial. They gave me a chance, so it’s for me to repay them as well. He’s also been a factor in the passing offense, catching 15 passes for 179 yards. Lewis said when I asked if he allowed himself an opportunity to celebrate his accomplishment.
