Dion Waiters to Miami on 1-year deal

Almost every National Basketball Association free agent scored more money than expected this offseason.

Dion Waiters has finally found a home. In addition to losing Kevin Durant, one of the most gifted players in the National Basketball Association, the team is predicted to lose Russell Westbrook as well. I could have waited & got wat I wanted.

The Miami Heat may have lost Dwyane Wade but they signed a player on Monday that once drew comparisons to their franchise superstar.

The way his market dried up is fascinating, especially after the Thunder pulled – just in time, apparently – his $6.8 million qualifying offer. Oklahoma City relinquished its qualifying offer for Waiters last week to create flexibility for a possible Russell Westbrook contract renegotiation, turning Waiters from a restricted free agent to an unrestricted one once salary-cap space had dried up throughout most of the National Basketball Association.

Still, the numbers for Waiters are eye-popping considering the massive money handed out this summer. Tyler Johnson, who Miami spent $50 million on to retain in restricted free agency, could also see some spot minutes a the 2. And the Thunder are particularly high on the newly signed Alex Abrines, the 2013 second-round pick who they expect to provide playing time on the wing.

Some details have been released about the contract that Dion Waiters is signing with the Miami Heat. Timofey Mozgov got four years, $64 million.

Miami isn’t just the place to make a play for 2017 because of the roster, either. But that wasn’t directly available for the Thunder. McCollum, taken 10th in the 2013 draft, signed a $106 million extension, which is in part a byproduct of the new TV deal cash infusion that takes effect next season.

If Westbrook was ready to renegotiate, there’s no question the Thunder would jump at the opportunity.
