She has 10 days to respond and make the case as to why she should be able to keep her license.

Her spokesman, Chuck Ardo, directed The Morning Call to call Kane.

Sources didn’t explicitly state what the action entails, but the court holds the power to suspend Kane’s license to practice law if they believe it’s warranted.

Such a petition would shorten but not eliminate the Disciplinary Board’s lengthy due-process procedures in lawyer disciplinary cases.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is not under any time restriction to rule whether an attorney’s law license should be suspended.

Ms. Kane was charged August. 6 by District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman of Montgomery County with conspiracy, official oppression, perjury, and other crimes for allegedly leaking confidential grand jury materials to embarrass a critic.

According to the state constitution, the attorney general must be an active member of the bar.

She became the state’s top prosecutor in part by vowing to investigate why it took Tom Corbett, her Republican predecessor, more than two years to charge Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State University assistant football coach, with sexually abusing boys.

James Koval, a spokesperson for the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, said he could not comment on the reports because he has no information on the alleged action brought against the Attorney General. Her next court appearance is October. 14.

Despite facing criminal charges, Kane said she plans to seek re-election in 2016.
