Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called upon the youth in Tamil Nadu to look beyond AIADMK and DMK, which are tainted by corruption, and find an alternative in BJP, which is a “corruption-free” party.

“I am afraid to use the word solar in Kerala as it would create a “big dhamaka” (explosion)”, he said referring to the solar scam which has rocked UDF government with charges being made even against Chief Minister Ommen Chandy.

He said the central government also ended corruption in the cooking gas subsidy by directly crediting the subsidy amount into consumers’ bank account.

Highlighting his government’s achievements towards providing corruption-free governance, Mr Modi said, “During the previous government, news of corruption and scams was reported every day”. A source familiar with the development said the price of electricity is the lingering issue, and it could be resolved before Mr. Modi’s visit.

BJP, which has tied up with the BDJS (Bharatiya Dharma Jana Sena), a party floated by the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP), an organisation of the Ezhava community, has fielded 97 candidates while BDJS has put up 37 and remaining seats have been allocated to smaller parties.

Shri Narendra Modi stated that for sixty years Congress party and Left Front ruled and looted God’s Own Country. This was a “great opportunity completely missed”, he added.

Addressing a mega election rally in Chennai today, he said the Centre has been responsible in its functioning as reflected in the fact that the Centre was rushing aid to whichever region struck by disasters including Chennai that was recently affected by flood. Zheng, who is visiting India on an invitation extended by Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, was accompanied by a strong business delegation.
