Disney Animation lands biggest ever opening with Zootopia

The animated Disney flick “Zootopia” just had a stunning weekend in the box office, taking in $73.7 million domestically while bringing its total worldwide ticket sales to $232.5 million since opening three weeks ago. That’s better than the previous best-selling feature cartoon from Disney, 2013’s “Frozen” and its 67.4 million dollars opening weekend, according to the movie box office watcher website comScore.

Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman lent their voices to the PG-rated animated adventure, and Zootopia has been universally praised by critics for its messages about prejudice and tolerance, earning a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. London Has Fallen is the follow-up to Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen.

Not only a box office success, Zootopia is riding on a wave of critical success as well, with glowing reviews from critics and an A on CinemaScore. The actress’ “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” stumbled with a $7.6 million launch from 2,374 venues.
