When Disney takes on a fairy tale, its version tends to become the definitive version: Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, etc. At the D23 Expo, the company announced it is now working on what it hopes will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk, called very big. If you look at a “Jack and the Beanstalk” story, that’s kind of what happens there, too. Greno said the feisty character was inspired by an actual young girl they met while visiting Spain, who tossed a soccer ball over their heads, raced their rental vehicle, and declared that “she was the princess of her people”.

Those in the room also got to hear a bit of the first song from huge, as sung live by Lopez and Anderson-Lopez.
“We’re going to have that deep, deep emotion in this film”, Greno said. Pixar and Disney Animation’s John Lasseter made the announcement during a presentation covering the studio’s upcoming slate of animated films.
Not much more is known at the moment, but huge will likely be just that when it arrives in theaters in 2018. Set in Spain during the age of discovery, the film follow Jack as he befriends a female giant in the new remake. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality – and who knew giants were so down to earth?

“Gigantic” will be directed by “Tangled’s” Nathan Greno, while Dorothy McKim will produce. This is a world of giants.
