Disney announces ‘Jungle Book,’ ‘Maleficent’ sequels

The studio has staked out release dates, but did not say which product would be reserved for which slot. August 3, 2018 is another date ear-marked for Disney – now unopposed. The July 28, 2017 project will go up against Sony’s Jumanji reboot, while all of the other unspecified projects don’t have any direct competition in those release dates yet.

Ava DuVernay has her take on A Wrinkle In Time featuring a script by Jennifer Lee, Maleficent 2 should see the return of Angelina Jolie and boasts Linda Woolverton scripting, Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins sequel, set years after the original and starring Emily Blunt as the titular nanny and Hamilton composer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Disney studio has confirmed that plans are indeed underway for sequels to some of their box office hit movies like ‘The Jungle Book’ and Maleficent.

In between all their Marvel, Star Wars and animated movies, Disney’s been plowing full steam ahead in recent years with the live action remakes of their classic animated movies.

They also confirmed that director Tim Burton and The Brother’s Grimm writer Ehren Kruger are on board for a Dumbo live action flick, while Dwayne Johnson is set to star in a movie entitled Jungle Cruise.

The studio also announced that Angelina Jolie is all set to reprise her role as Maleficent in an upcoming follow-up. Lasse Hallstrom has The Nutcracker And The Four Realms in the works and finally we have Reese Witherspoon’s yet-to-be-titled Tinker Bell fantasy film, which has Victoria Strouse providing the screenplay.

Disney also previously announced live-action fairy tale dates for November 2, 2018, and November 8, 2019.
