Disney CEO says ‘Star Wars’ global sales may reach $528 million
Fans assaulted theaters over the weekend, helping Disney shatter all existing Star Wars records.

Disney purchased Star Wars producer Lucasfilm for $US4 billion in 2012 as part of his bet on big-budget films. Star Wars’ receipts are even more impressive given that Jurassic World’s take included $11.8 million from opening weekend in China, where Star Wars won’t be released until January.
Oscar Isaac revealed to GQ Magazine that the best pilot in the galaxy wasn’t always meant to stick around for the entirety of Force Awakens.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” may rake in $528 million in worldwide ticket sales over the weekend, Walt Disney Co Chief Executive Bob Iger said on Bloomberg TV.
Internationally, the film brought in US$279 million, bringing its global gross to US$517 million – second only to “Jurassic World’s” global bow of US$525 million.
But it’s not surprising the rivalry is so friendly: Jurassic World’s Frank is actually married to Kathleen Kennedy, president of Disney’s Lucasfilm. Disney pushed out the first “The Force Awakens” toys in September and last month the Wall Street Journal reported that “Star Wars” was “sucking the air out” of toy aisles. This time around, people aren’t going back to decide whether they liked the movie (as in the case of the prequels). This gave the J.J. Abrams-directed picture the highest single-day profits on record and it became the first film to break the $100 million mark in a single day.
“I’m sorry, I’m so excited I forgot how old I was”, Romero said. Audiences awarded an “A” grade in polling by survey firm CinemaScore.
The Disney movie sold out across the USA and was a big draw around the world. Star Wars’ domestic launch is now tallied at about $247 million, still the highest ever in the States.

With its global bow now at a record $529 million, “Star Wars'” box office success will undoubtedly afford its cast members heftier pay cuts on their next projects. Collins cited “The Force Awakens” director JJ Abrams favorable track record with another beloved science fiction film franchise. In box office history, only two films have grossed over $2 billion: Avatar ($2.8 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion).
