Disney’s Descendants just might be one of our most anticipated events of the year!
Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega, who made “High School Musical” a hit, is hamstrung by a paint-by-numbers plot in a script by writers Josie McGibbon and Sara Parriott, veterans of “The Starter Wife” and “Desperate Housewives”. Maybe there is goodness within them after all.
ANDPOP special correspondent Caity Babcock got the chance to to visit the Descendants Vancouver set last summer and talk to the film’s stars: Live and Maddie’s Dove Cameron (Maleficient’s daughter Mal), Sofia Carson (the Evil Queen’s daughter, Evie) and Twilight’s Booboo Stewart (Jafar’s son Jay). Plus, their kids will also be involved in the unique storyline of the movie. After giving us a little context about the kingdom on an iPad, Descendants opens with the son of Belle and Beast, Prince Ben, asking that the children of certain Disney villains have a shot at redemption.
Beast could be seen hesitant at first, but warms up to the thought after having realized that he too was misjudged once.
The next scene shows the island where the exiled villains are staying, with their children performing a track, “Rotten to the Core”, accompanied by a great dance choreography. Descendants brings together everyone’s favorite “love to hate them” Disney villains and combines them with the fun storytelling style Disney Channel original movies are known for.
