Disney plans “Star Wars” attractions at US theme parks

– AFP/Relaxnews pic, August 17, 2015.R2-D2 will be rolling into Mickey Mouse’s neighbourhood as the amusement park giant opens parks with a “Star Wars” theme adjacent to existing venues in Florida and California.

Visual effects professional Adam Hlavac took to Twitter to give fans a preview of what is to come.

Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced at D23 EXPO 2015 that Star… One piece of that news was that Disney officially announced Star Wars themed lands will be put into Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm is also working on a series of Star Wars spin-off films which it has titled the “Anthology Series”.

The event also featured appearances by Abrams and “Star Wars” icon Harrison Ford, who joined fellow cast members John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong’o on Saturday to unveil new artwork for “The Force Awakens”.

Finally, as part of the largest expansion in the park’s history, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will invite guests into the world of Avatar, a development that will see the entire park will transform after dark with new nighttime entertainment experiences. The new lands, each about 14 acre, will include a recreation of a “Star Wars” battle.

A date for the opening of the brand new points of interest was not given, and Disney didn’t touch upon the price of the expansions.

The highlights of each park will be two feature rides, one of which will allow park guests to get behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon for a top secret marriage.

As revealed at the D23 expo this weekend, Disney Infinity 3.0 will be getting a play set based on the upcoming Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens movie.
