Disney using subliminal messaging for College Football Playoff promotion
Television ratings for the primary College Football Playoff semifinals held on New Year’s Eve dropped roughly 36 percent from final season once they have been performed on New Year’s Day.

The overnight ratings showed why having the sport’s biggest games of the season on December 31 was a bad idea: the ratings were down 33% from the initial Playoff last season. The Cotton Bowl earned a 9.9 rating and the Orange Bowl a 9.7.
Unless New Year’s Eve falls on a weekend, the first of the national semifinals in the foreseeable future will be played while some people are still at work.
Alabama faces Clemson in the national championship game January 11, which will kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The FBS convention commissioners who put collectively the College Football Playoff a number of years in the past stated they needed to create a brand new custom by enjoying the semifinals on New Year’s Eve twice each three years over the course of a 12-yr contract with ESPN. Likewise, with the semifinal games being on New Year’s Eve this year, it’s a wise move to bring up the date and event so it sticks in people’s heads. “The thing I’m going to be most curious about is if the games being on will affect the prime-time portion of the New Year’s Eve telecasts”. Next season the semifinals will again be played on New Year’s Eve, this time in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, and the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. “Some people are in one room watching “New Year’s Rockin” Eve’ and other people are in the other room watching football”.
While hardcore college football fans have long braced for this awkward clash of football and nightlife, casual fans in nontraditional college hotbeds don’t understand why the season’s best games aren’t being played on New Year’s Day. “I guess it’s like asking a coach to talk about a whole game at halftime”, he said. Clemson defeated Oklahoma 37-17. The business world isn’t taking the day off; the New York Stock Exchange is open regular hours, as are banks.

I’ve got to say, I’m excited that the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma, one of my alma maters, is in the college football playoffs tonight. It was great. It felt like a return to what New Year’s Day is supposed to be. This year’s playoff games were played on New Year’s Eve, a decision that has been scrutinized for much of the past year because New Year’s Eve is a day most people don’t spend watching television. You just have to look for it.
