Distracted driving causes twice as many deaths as impaired driving: OPP
The number of deaths resulting from distracted driving on Ontario roads has doubled the number resulting from drunk driving so far this year, Ontario Provincial Police say.

That’s the first time this has occurred since distracted driving laws were introduced in Ontario in 2009.
The hope is to get passengers involved in the campaign, encouraging them to speak up when travelling with an inattentive driver. As of mid-August, the number of distracted released deaths are now at 38 while impaired driving is at 19. Recognize that they are endangering your life.
The OPP said officers have investigated 38 road deaths as of mid-August where the driver was found to not be paying attention versus 19 deaths involving impaired drivers.
In a release, OPP Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair says they are calling on all of us to try and curb the amount of distracted driving deaths.

Police are warning that if the driver’s eyes are not on the road, it’s not safe to be the vehicle. Earlier this month, the OPP laid 41 impaired charges over a 24-hour period at RIDE checks.
