Canada’s medal total at the Rio Olympics has hit five thanks to synchronized divers Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion. They sat in fourth place after posting a 74.70 dive with their third jump into the pool.

Before the games began, Valerie Harwood, chair of the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of South Florida, issued a strong recommendation to Olympians and visitors alike in an interview with the Associated Press: “Don’t put your head under water”.

Benefeiro and Filion pulled off a phenomenal final dive, while the Koreans missed on their last dive, sending the Canadians to the podium.

Team Canada wins bronze medal in women’s synchronized 10m dive and also competed in judo, sailing, field hockey, women’s pair repechage, fencing, eventing team jumping and men’s volleyball.

China continued to dominate in diving as Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia won gold with a score of 354.00, while Jun Hoong Cheong and Pandelela Rinong Pamg were second for Malaysia with 344.34. Outdoor pool water can turn green with the presence of algae, which indicates that there is not enough chlorine in the water.
