It is not yet known which, if any, Irish stores are affected.

“The two-humped camel shape that emerged a year ago was further accentuated with an all-time record day on Black Friday and a strong promotional period after Christmas”, said Chief Executive Seb James.

It said United Kingdom and Ireland like-for-like sales lifted by 5% in the 10 weeks to January 9, with the strongest trading day in its history on Black Friday in November and a good start to the clearance sales on Boxing Day.

The firm said it expected a 2015-16 pretax profit of 440-450 million pounds ($625-$639 million) versus analysts’ previous average forecast of 440 million pounds and the 381 million pounds made in 2014-15.

Dixons said it did well in all its regional markets, gaining market share particularly in United Kingdom mobile sales. I am really delighted that our Sprint trial has gone so well, and we have now agreed with Sprint that the joint venture should go into full production towards its target of 500 stores.

In the Nordics it had a strong Black Friday and sales rose during the period, but currency weakness and oil price continued to affect the Norwegian market.
