DJI unveils Osmo, the world’s first fully integrated, stabilized handheld 4K
On Thursday, DJI announced a new camera called ‘Osmo.’ The new DJI device is essentially an integrated 4K camera and handheld three-axis stabilizer which can connect to the Apple iPhone.

Not just a builder of fantastic drones, the DJI boffins have used their expertise to create a camera stabilisation system for ground use.
The Osmo is compatible with DJI’s Zenmuse camera series but the standard 12-megapixel camera is capable of 4K video and has a 1/2.3-inch image sensor. Actually, the Osmo is a bit more than that: With a built-in swiveling 4K camera and sophisticated stabilization, it’s an all-purpose tool for people who want cinematic imagery but don’t want to spring for a serious DSLR or camcorder.
DJI has programmed in several smart-shooting modes, such as the Panorama mode, where you can take a picture, and the camera will then automatically pan around 360°, taking and stitching overlapping photos to create a panorama.
The Osmo handle comes equipped with an on-board stereo microphone, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack for recording professional-quality external sound. “The Osmo moves the experience of hand-held film-making from capturing what happened, to sharing expressive, smooth video that shows what an experience was like”, Pan continued.
DJI Osmo starts shipping October 15th, it’s available for pre-order right away at $649. A number of accessories are also being introduced, including a tripod built to secure the device to most surfaces, an extension rod, a bike mount and a universal mount with an extra microphone and LED light.
As should be obvious, the compatibility of all these technologies fits perfectly with the needs of DJI’s cameras when they’re on the drones themselves: during flight, image stabilization for photos and ultra HD resolution video is absolutely vital and from what we’ve seen so far, works superbly in existing DJI drones.
